Every day, when the fading light fails, I find bits of sunset under my nails. Things forgotten are to yesterday lost; What paths I have missed are roads left uncrossed. Anxiety bleeds me throughout day; Despite all my efforts, I've lost my way. Why do you leave, simple sun of my sky? Day after day, you forsake me to night. Sleep helps me forget, a transient fix, But I wake to a noise and the clock still ticks.

My eyes, They ache and burn so deep. Their lids, Tight-shut, refuse to keep. My mind Runs over counting-sheep. Their bodies Are hurdles I’m anxious to leap. My hands, They crush themselves in fists. Like teeth, They grind for shut-eye missed. My soul I'd sell for forty winks. Your hell, It’s this, I’m starting to think. My hope, It died, but I won’t weep. Instead, I’ll mourn this loss of sleep. My heart Beats on, a ticking drum. A clock Which counts the hours’ sum.

I lie on the sheets, bound to my bed. No chains on my wrists, they’re all in my head. Clocks tick away seconds, then hours, then days. I don’t count their passing, but sleep them away. No reason to wait, no sense being lost. This fear is my folly, time is its cost. I wait for something, for something profound. Listening intently, I hear not a sound. Just tireless ticking, the ticking of clocks, Like the footsteps of Death, coming to knock. Sunlight is a glow, then a glimmer, then dead. I stare at the ceiling, bound to my bed.
